No Hot Pets

June 23, 2013 By callmehannah 2 Comments

I can’t believe that people leave their dogs in the car on hot days. The weather is warming up and that means more dogs are getting harmed. I know that when I get in the car after it’s been parked for even a little while,  ‘m too hot and I am uncomfortable, so how can people leave their dogs in the car? It’s not right that people leave their dogs in the heat. Here is a video I watched on NoHotPets.ca about the issue and what we can do about it.

Like they said, “A vehicle is no place for a pet.” It may not seem so serious but It is that a pet is in the hot sun. Here are some facts about dogs being in hot cars:

  1. SPCAs all across Canada receive hundreds of reports about dogs being left in cars. In the US, that number is in the thousands.
  2. Even with the windows open, it doesn’t make a difference it can still harm the dog.
  3. A dog’s normal body temperature is about 39 degrees and even just 41 degrees can cause brain damage or worse.
  4. Owners who leave their dogs in the sun may be pressed charges by the SPCA because it is a law to not leave your dog in the car.

If you do leave your dog in the car rub cool water over it’s fur, bring it into the shade and offer it some water to drink. If you see a dog in the car you should call the local security, the SPCA or the police and tell them about the dog and they will take care of it.

Dogs being in hot cars is one of the most dangerous issues with dogs. Leave your dog at home if you don’t want it to get sick. We never leave my dog in the scorching sun outside, so why would you inside a car?

I took a pledge so that you never leave your dog in the car and that if you see one help it, if you want to take the pledge go to http://nohotpets.ca/.

      Great reminder.

The other thing that I see far too often is dogs being walked on hot pavement. Place your hand on the ground. If it’s hot on your hand it’s hot on their paws.
