Today is #WorldTeachersDay! Today, we acknowledge the educators in our lives who have impacted us and have made a difference. Our teachers are some of the first role models that we have.
I have spent a lot of time over the past couple of years learning and speaking out for education for girls and boys around the world. I have come to realize how lucky I am to wake up everyday and go to school in a classroom that is clean, safe and fun. There are millions of children who don’t have this opportunity and it is something that I don’t take for granted.
In 1994 the United Nations proclaimed October 5th World Teachers Day to honour and celebrate the contributions that teachers make to our society. While I believe that we need to appreciate them everyday, today is a special day set aside for us to recognize our teachers for everything that they do for us.
I am honoured to have been asked to share my thoughts in with Microsoft as they say thank you to teachers. I had the opportunity to talk about my favourite teacher, Mrs. Van der Veen, and how she made an impact in my life. Check out the video below.
To celebrate the 21st World Teacher’s Day, Microsoft Canada, with the help of Staples, is recognizing 21 schools that are making an impact in their community. Nominate your school for a chance to receive a Teacher Appreciation Package!
Share your favourite teacher and why on social media! Don’t forget to #ThankYouTeachers! #LongLiveLearning
