There has rarely been a day in my journey as a change agent that I haven’t dreamed of going to Kenya. I got involved with Free The Children not long after I started my blog in June, 2012 and attended my first WE Day as part of the media. There I learned about Kenya, the pillars of impact and the many differences between my life here in Canada and the lives of my peers in the Masai Mara.
And the day is almost here. Tomorrow I will be boarding a plane to Amsterdam, then another one to Nairobi and then a drive to the Masai Mara. I can’t wait to get there and see it all with my own eyes. I can’t wait to meet the people – the mamas and the students. All of it.
I recently got a first look at my itinerary and I am so excited to share the highlights that my time in Kenya will include.
Day 1:
Arrive at Bogani in Masai Mara, Swahili lesson, talk about the pillars of impact, Old School New School, Baraka
Day 2:
Morning walk with Masai Warriors, Community Water Walk, Baraka Clinic, Bush Bar with Masai Warriors
Day 3:
Mulot Market, Kisaruni High School
Day 4:
Sunrise Safari, Picnic Breakfast, Project Building (Boys High School)
Day 5:
Oleleshwa Farm, Beading with the Mamas
Day 6:

Day 7:

Day 8:

The activities that I am most looking forward to are the ones related to the pillars that I am so passionate about – education and water.. My assignment in Kenya is to get and give a first hand look at the impact that WE as change agents have made together over the years and RBC is making possible through the RBC Free The Children Visa Virtual Debit card.
Before I sign off, I want to share one more very special thing about my journey to Kenya – I am doing this with my Mom. My parents have been with me every step of the way in my journey as a change agent – from starting my blog and guiding me through each and every experience I have had. One or both of my parents have been with me at every WE Day and have fully supported every initiative I have participated in. We have done so much of this as a family. While my Dad will not be with us in Kenya, he will be at home and he is so excited for us. My mom and I will be sharing as much as we can on social media from the ground, so keep your eyes out for our updates. We’ll be using the hashtags #ChangeAgents and #Someday on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I look forward to meeting new people, making new friends as well as seeing some familiar faces (you’ll have to stay tuned to my social media feed to see who!)
I am ready. I am filled with knowledge that I have learned in the past few years of the many challenges and impacts that I am going to see. My bags are packed. I have all of my travel vaccinations and a brand new journal to write in. The biggest step on my path as a change agent is about to begin! Kwaheri and Hakunamatata…
