I have always been so proud to be Canadian but April 12th, 2017 will always be my proudest day as a Canadian.
I was so honoured to be invited by Malala Yousafzai and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to be there when he presented her with her Honourary Canadian Citizenship. She is only the 6th person, and the youngest ever, to receive this.
The first thing we did was attend the official ceremony in the Library of Parliament when she received her citizenship and was gifted a Canadian Peace Tower flag. After that, we were escorted into the House Of Commons for the address. At the end of the day, I was so excited to be have the opportunity to have a conversation and interview Malala about youth empowerment, equality, education, blogging and her journey. I hope you enjoy the end specifically, we did a really fun activity!
Malala has been my role model for so many years. I spoke about her on the WE Day stage, I admire her bravery and her drive for change. She motivates me everyday to know that I am never too young to change the world, and no matter what to stand up for what I believe in and to defy the status quo.
