If you read one thing today, let this be it. A poem about life.

July 20, 2015 By callmehannah 1 Comment

This is an amazing piece of poetry that has been circulating on social media in the last few days. Most people sharing it have not attributed it to the authour who is Chanie Gorkin. She is a grade 11 student from Brooklyn, New York.

Today was the absolute worst day ever.

And don’t try to convince me that

There’s something good in every day

Because, when you take a closer look,

The world is a pretty evil place.

Even if

Some goodness does shine through once in awhile

Satisfaction and happiness don’t last.

And it’s not true that

It’s all in the mind and heart

Because

True happiness can be obtained

Only if one’s surroundings are good

It’s not true that good exists

I’m sure you can agree that

The reality

Creates

My attitude

It’s all beyond my control

And you’ll never in a million years hear me say that

Today was a good day.

Wow. That’s pretty powerful. Depressing right? The writer seems as if she has no hope.

Now, read the piece from bottom to top. Let me know what you think.
