Tonight my friend and fellow We Day and Me To We speaker, Molly Burke shared that her guide-dog, Gypsy, died. On her Facebook page, Molly wrote:
She has given the past 7 years of her life to serving as my guide dog, and I know I would not be where I am today without her. Gypsy’s constant love and friendship has gotten me through some of the hardest times and I know she lived every selfless minute to support me. She was also there for all of the best moments, the highlights, to celebrate. Known for always stealing the spotlight and making new friends everywhere she went. She was always there to listen to me when there was no one else, to snuggle when I was sad or scared, and to do her big Gypsy bark.
I feel so lucky that I got to be one of those friends. She was always loved by everyone and was so playful when she was off her work harness and so well-behaved when she was working. Gypsy supported Molly all the time. Everyone who was at We Day loved Gypsy, who Molly introduced as her best friend.
One of my favorite memories at We Day was in Halifax was when I had the chance to take Gypsy out for a walk on a beautiful day in Nova Scotia. She was so hyper and excited, but was very good and knew not to leave without me. She ran around in circles at the park, and we had such a good time together that day. Right before I walked back to the hotel with Gypsy, we just had to stop at the ocean and take a picture.
I want to add one last story about Gypsy at Take Action Camp last summer. Molly came to spend the day and she brought Gypsy and I played with her outside in the field. She tugged and chewed on one of her favourite toys. It was a toy hamburger called “The Kielburger”. Get it?
Gypsy will be forever missed by everyone who knew her, but especially her best friend, Molly.
Gypsy was a sweetheart. Chels and I met her in Halifax. I know how much you love animals, Hannah and I’m sorry Molly lost such a special friend.
Thank you Heather! Gypsy was definitely one of the best dogs ever, but as Molly said, “In true diva dog fashion, she wagged her tail all the way through it.” She went to doggy heaven and we will always be with Gypsy.
