I’m a big fan of the Family Channel and one of my favorite shows is The Next Step. If you come here often, you’ll know that I love their messages about important issues that affect young people. For the 13th straight year, Family Channel is launching it’s anti-bullying campaign, Stand Up!, It’s all about preventing bullying and finding solutions that work. This year, Family Channel will focus on how the bystanders can become UPstanders.
The station will be airing bullying-themed episodes of shows like The Next Step, Jessie, Austin And Ally, Wingin It and others to raise awareness about the issue, the impact of it and the simple things we can do to stop it. Stars of Family Channel and Disney Channel will be sharing their experiences of bullying – whether they were the bystander, the victim or the bully – in between episodes that will air from November 16th to 22nd during Bullying Awareness Week.
Family Channel is also teaming up with breakout musician Shane Harte to release the 2015 Stand Up! anthem called Nobody’s Stopping You. The song’s moving lyrics will inspire others to stand up to bullies and fight – even when it feels like they’re alone. I’ve got the insdie scoop of the song and you can hear it right here!
Family Channel is also hosting a contest that is all about raising awareness about bullying and putting a stop to the cycle. You can enter the contest online and your school could win a Stand Up! rally hosted by The Next Step star Trevor Tjordman and Family Channel host Deepa Prasha! There will be a presentation by them, where they will talk about tips on how to prevent bullying in your community and more! Helping out with the presentation and participating will be a PREVnet representative. PREVnet (Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence Network) is providing the statistics and facts for Family Channel’s programming during Bullying Awareness week in November.
I love this campaign because it brings the issue of bullying to an audience that is impacted in so many ways. The conversations that will result from the awawreness that they bring can go a long way in making a difference.
